K'gari
This blog post will just be a short recap of my trip to Fraser Island.
A few days ago I returned from my greatest adventure yet. K'gari. The common name is Fraser Island, while the aboriginal name given to the island by the native people is K'gari. K'gari is the world's largest sand island which is also home to some of the purest sand in the world. The trip was organized by the international office here at Southern Cross and it included about 15 of us. It was a bit of an adjustment at first, being on an island for 3 days without running water. I really did learn to appreciate flushing toilets and showers after going without for a few days.
Some of the things we got to see while on the island were wild dingos, crystal clear water in Lake Mckenzie, the Maheno ship wreck, large sand dunes, and fresh clear springs and rivers.
Just for clarification, we did sleep in tents on the island and had dingos walking around in the middle of the night. I woke up one night as I heard the sound of something sniffing my tent. However, we only encountered dingos twice, both while driving on the beach.

Another site on the island is the Maheno ship wreck. This ship has a long history, beginning with the fact that it was made by the same company that made the Titanic. Seriously. The ship had many different uses in it's time, one of which being a hospital ship during World War I. The history of this ship is long and fascinating. I suggest that if you have spare time, look into the history of this ship.

Next, we visited one of the world's most beautiful lakes, Lake Mckenzie. This lake is famous for it's crystal clear water and white sand. The water is so pure that you can open your eyes under water and still see perfectly. I cannot say enough things about this amazing place, it was truly paradise.

The first day we arrived on the island we visited Lake Wabby, which is half surrounded by large sand dunes.

Finally, one of the most beautiful things I experienced on the island was the sunset over the ocean. It was truly breathtaking.
Looking back on these pictures, I want nothing more than to go back to K'gari. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and it is a trip that I will never forget. I hope some day I will be able to make the trip back to this wonderful place.
